BOCCE BALL CLUB

January 2012

By Charlie Tannehill

Well, its January and I would probably guess that half of our bocce players are snow birds and are practicing for the upcoming year. I hope that those of us that remain behind are enjoying our winter activities in our winter wonderland. Personally I just try to stay warm next to the fireplace and enjoy winter from there.

Think summer! We had 36 teams last year and we're expecting more this next year. Its a fun time for those summer months. Every Thursday, just west of the pool, the four courts are busy every Thursday for four hours as teams shuttle in and out playing at their preset times. Then there's the second Thursday of each month when we have our luncheon at court side prepared by our master chef Gene Savino. Teams members are asked to bring salads and desserts, on occasion, to add to our festive luncheons. I have found that if you go home hungry its your fault.

Its quite a task putting 36 teams on a roster and organizing a playing schedule for four courts at specific times. Having more teams this year will even be more of a challenge. Gerry Bernar has his hands full setting up this schedule and he has asked team members to contact him if their team will be playing again next year. He has received some calls but is still waiting for your call. If you are interested in playing and would like to join our group, give him a call and I'm sure he can either put you on a team or sign you up as a substitute for the coming year. The cost to you is $10 per year and $1 when you sign up to play each Thursday. Its fun for all and its a way to meet your Lake Summerset neighbors. If you're a new member of our Lake Community, join us for a fun time. Give Gerry a call and join up.

Oh by the way, Gerry, my team, The Enterprise, is returning at full strength....

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and we wish you a Happy and Healthy New year
