April 2010 Security Corner Newsletter By Janet Wise - Security Director BOAT SAFETY CLASS: A boat safety class will be held Saturday May 1, 2010, from 8am to 5pm. The class will be held at the Lake Summerset Office meeting room. Class size is limited, so sign up early. Upon completion of this 8-hour course and the test, a certificate is issued. This course is especially important to those between the ages of 12 and 18, as this certificate will enable them to operate a boat alone. If you are 10 to 11 years in age, you can still attend with an adult, however, you will not receive your certificate until you are of age. No fee is charged, but call 815-248-2194 to pre-register. AUTOMATIC CARD GATES: A reminder that if you are using the automatic card gates, YOU cannot use these gates if you do not have a current LSA decal. You cannot use these gates pulling a trailer, boat etc. Guests cannot use these gates, even if a member is in the car with them. There are signs posted at all entrances and exits of the automatic card gates with restrictions on usage. DECALS: Lake Summerset Security will be enforcing the display of new 2010 Decals as of APRIL 15th. If you do not have your decal, displayed, be prepared to be stopped. The guards will stop you at the main gate to check for valid membership and then you will be issued a daily pass until decals are displayed. Security Patrol will also be checking the east and west card gates and issuing citations. Also, all unlicensed motor vehicles must have new decals displayed, before driving on LS roads. SOFT SHOULDERS: As the weather warms the shoulders of the road get very mushy. Security asks that you do not park along roadways until the ground firms up. Parking during this soggy season will cause ruts and damage to the sides of the road; this can be very expensive to repair. If you are having guests or delivery person(s) please ask them not to park along the road. HIGH WATER: April is usually a very wet month, but with the strange weather pattern we have been having lately who knows. If we do have a high period of rain, be sure to watch for the high water signs at the west end. If the water is rushing and very high, security advises all traffic to take the long way around and not cross the creek. If you have any questions concerning any subject in this article, feel free to call the security department at 248-2194 extension 224 and ask for Janet. The security guard house is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day to report any complaints or suspicious activity. The emergency number is 248-2778.
