BREAK INS: On Friday January 11, 2008 eight homes at LSA were broken into on the west end of Lake Summerset. Considerable damage was done to several homes. The Stephenson County Sheriff s department, Illinois State Crime Scene Officer and LSA Security Patrol worked extensively to track the footprints left by 2 individuals. In further investigating the incidents on Saturday, I identified an individual whose shoes appeared to match the prints found at the scenes from the previous night. The Il State Crime Scene Officer was called and confirmed that the prints matched and the 2 juveniles involved were caught and confessed to these criminal damages to property. One of the involved juveniles lives at Lake Summerset and the other was a guest from outside of the Lake. These juveniles can be charged with criminal trespass, criminal damage and residential burglary.

HOUSE CHECKS: Lake Summerset Security will check on your home while you are away. Our department will check your home visually or will do door checks. For this to be done, you are required to fill out a house check form available at either the main gate or the LS office. There is no fee for this service.

BOAT SAFETY CLASS: On Saturday, March 15, 2008, I will be teaching a boat safety class at Lake Summerset. The class will be from 8 am to 5pm, with a one-hour lunch break. This class is through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and will include all the basics of boating. This class is offered for anyone 12 and older. If you are 10 to 11 years of age, you can still attend with an adult, however, you will not receive your certificate until you are of age. Be sure to sign up early, as there are a limited number of spots for this class. You can call 815-248-2194 Tues thru Fri 8a-4p, Sat. 8am to 12 noon to sign up.

NEW SMOKING LAW: As of January 2008 a new smoking law is in effect. No one can smoke in any public building, and yes, this includes LSA’s public buildings, such as the pool, lodge, maintenance, office, guardhouse buildings. You must be outside and 15 feet away from all doors and windows if you are smoking. Smokers please respect those who do not smoke and do not smoke in restricted areas.

DECALS: New decals will be available after pay-ment of your 2008 dues. Remember when putting on your new decal that you do not place the decal in the tinted area of your windshield. All decals are to be placed in the lower left corner of your windshield. Be sure to remove all old decals.
