2012 Security Corner Newsletter
By Janet Wise - Security Director It is hard to believe another year has come and gone. I hope that the new year brings peace and good health to all of you. THANK YOU: The Security Staff would like to thank all the people who gave us goodies for Christmas. We appreciate your generosity. WALKERS: Walkers, remember that you cannot use the whole road when cars are approaching. If there are more than 2 abreast walking, be sure you get into a single file so cars may pass you safely. Be extremely cautious when topping hills so that approaching vehicles do not suddenly come upon several of you abreast. Make sure you walk against traffic. If you are walking after dark, make sure you carry a flashlight and you wear light colored clothing ICE RESCUE TRAINING: Durand Fire and Rescue will be training at Lake Summerset the first Sunday of February. They practice every year to keep up on Ice Rescue. This is a very interesting training session and members of LSA are welcome to watch them practice. The actual practice usually begins around 10:30am. SNOWMOBILES: Any snowmobile that belongs to a member of LSA that travels on LSA property must be registered with the LSA Office. You must have proof of insurance and display your lot number and decal on this vehicle. Guest snowmobiles must enter and exit at the main gate. Guest snowmobiles must have a pass to enter, must be accompanied by the member hosting them, and must go the most direct route to that member’s home only. Also, a reminder to all snowmobile operators: open lots are off limits to snowmobiles, unless you have permission from the lot owner to cross their properties. Every year we get numerous complaints that snowmobiles are driving on open lots and sometimes on homeowner’s lots. There have also been incidents where snowmobiles have damaged property (trees, lawns, etc). So please respect your fellow lot/home owners and stay off their property. THE DAM: A reminder that the slope of the dam (the grassy side) is off limits to sledding, walking, sliding or any other activity. Anyone looking for a sledding area can find one at Harting Park Shelter area and the Quarry Park. PARKING: Parking along the roadsides during the winter is not allowed. Snowplows must have access to road surfaces and places to push snow. When cars park along the roadside, clearing the road becomes difficult. If you have an emergency situation and have to park along the road, you must call the guardhouse and let them know. This will prevent snow plowers from hitting your vehicle. You must also remove that vehicle from the roadside within 24 hours. Redbook Rule Section C 4 (a) on page 8 states: No vehicle shall be parked at any time on any green area or restricted area in LSA. Overnight parking on any street, road shoulder, right of way, easement or green area requires prior written approval from the Security Chief. REDBOOK: Whether you are new to Lake Summerset or have been here for a while, please take the time to read the Lake Summerset Association Rules and Regulations REDBOOK. Security enforces the rules that are in this book. If you do not have a Redbook, they are available at the LSA Office or the Main Gate. ICE FISHING: New rules for ice fishing at Lake Summerset. Night ice fishing from December 1 until April 30 - from sunset to sunrise all guest ice fishermen must be accompanied by the welcoming Member and must also possess an LSA fishing permit and Illinois fishing license. The guest may fish alone in his/her own ice shelter, but must be within speaking distance (maximum 40yards) of the member. All ice fishing shelters must have owner’s name and address on them, and must be removed from the ice every night. AUTOMATIC CARD GATES: A reminder that if you are using the automatic card gates YOU cannot use these gates if you do not have a current LSA decal. You cannot use these gates pulling a trailer, boat, etc. Guests cannot use these gates, even if a member is in the car with them. There are signs posted at all entrances and exits of the automatic card gates with restrictions on usage. DECALS:
When you receive your 2012 LSA Decal, be sure you place it in the proper
location. The decal must be placed in the lower left (drivers side) of
your windshield. Do not put the decal in a tinted area, and do not deface
the decal by cutting it. If you have any questions concerning any subject in this article, feel free to call the security department at 248-2194 extension 224 and ask for Janet. The security guard house is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day to report any complaints or suspicious activity. The emergency number is 248-2778.
