June 2008 Security Corner Newsletter By Janet Wise - Security Director BOATING ON LAKE SUMMERSET: Before you launch your boat, make sure that you have a current LSA Decal and an Illinois State Sticker and numbers. If you are borrowing a boat you must fill out proper paper work at the LS Office. After launching, make sure you obey the LS rules and regulations pertaining to no wake areas, speed, skiing, etc. All rules are in the LS Redbook. If you don’t have a red book you can pick one up at the LSA Office. MARINA: If you have a boat in the LS Marina, please make sure you tie your boat up properly and that the rope is in good condition. Security has already rescued a boat that broke loose due to ropes that weren’t in good condition. It gets very windy at the marinas and the bobbing and bouncing around is very hard on your ropes. You should periodically check that your boat is secure. BEACHES: Be sure you are aware of the beach rules and regulations. They are posted at each beach. Most complaints are that dogs are on the sandy area of the beach, and people are swimming after sunset. Both of these are illegal. THEFTS: We are still experiencing thefts from vehicles and homes at Lake Summerset. Most of these thefts have occurred in the northeast corner of LSA, though now some are happening on the Southside of the lake in both Stephenson & Winnebago Counties. The Stephenson County & Winnebago County Sheriffs departments as well as LS Security are actively investigating these crimes. Wanted are 2 to 3 teenagers wearing black hoodies. These individuals usually strike between dusk and 2am on any day of the week. If anyone sees these individuals contact the Lake Summerset Guardhouse (815-248-2778) immediately and security will get someone to that area. PETS: Security is still receiving numerous complaints that dogs and cats are roaming onto their lots. Pet owners make sure your pets are tied when outside or you will be issued citations. UNLICENSED MOTOR VEHICLES: Drivers of unlicensed motor vehicles (ATVs, go carts, golf carts etc.) make sure you obey the LSA Rules and Regulations. You must wear eye protection when driving, have current LS decal, display orange flags on required vehicles and you cannot ride on green areas or other members open lots. AMENITY & EXTENDED PASSES: If you have not updated your amenity or extended (red) passes, make sure you get them updated as soon as possible. If you are unsure if your pass list is current, you can contact the main gate and the guard will advise you. If you have any questions concerning any subject in this article, feel free to call the security department at 248-2194 extension 224 and ask for Janet. The security guard house is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day to report any complaints or suspicious activity. The emergency number is 248-2778.
