March 2008 Security Corner Newsletter By Janet Wise - Security Director THEFTS FROM MAILBOXES: On Friday February 8th after dark, an unknown person or persons took mail from mailboxes on Pier Drive, Darby, Gainsboro and Dorchester. Some mail was opened and scattered along the roadside and ditches. Recovered mail was returned to owners. The Winnebago County Sheriff was called and reports were taken. For cautionary purposes, the WCSD Officer suggested never to leave mail (to be picked up) the night before, and do not put mail in boxes with checks. Apparently, if someone gets a hold of your check, they can remove who you wrote the check to and put their name in and cash it. Also, when mail is delivered to you, remove it as soon as possible. If anyone may have seen or heard anything that evening, contact Chief Wise. SNOWPLOWING: When you are in your driveway facing the road, please push snow to the right of your driveway. This way when the snowplow goes past your drive they will be pushing the snow away from your drive, instead of into it. To avoid a safety hazard, do not push or blow snow from your driveway into the road, especially after the roads have been cleared. BOAT SAFETY CLASS: There are still a few openings for this class. The class is Saturday March 15 from 8am to 5pm at the LSA office. You must sign up before that date. PARKING: Redbook Rule Section C 4 (a) on page 8 states: No vehicle shall be parked at any time on any green area or restricted area in LSA. Overnight parking on any street, road shoulder, right of way, easement or green area requires prior written approval form the security chief. No commercial truck with a plate classification of D (gvw of 12,000) or higher shall be parked for overnight or longer periods of time except for class D vehicles registered with L.S.A. If you have any questions concerning any subject in this article, feel free to call the security department at 248-2194 extension 224 and ask for Janet. The security guard house is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day to report any complaints or suspicious activity. The emergency number is 248-2778.
