Vehicle Windshields: Just a friendly reminder that when there is snow or frost on your windshields, and you are entering the main gate, make sure you have cleared away the snow/frost from your LS Decal.

ROAD POSTINGS: Usually, sometime in March or April, the County Highway Department will post roads. With the unusual weather we have been having, the roads could be posted earlier. The county posts roads because the thawing makes the roads vulnerable to heavy loads causing road damage. This means that certain trucks are not allowed to travel on the posted roads. If a truck of questionable weight is allowed, they must have a weigh slip that states what size load they have. These weigh slips must be shown to the guard at the entrance to Lake Summerset. If they are under the posted weight limit, they will be allowed to enter. Since the main entrance is in Winnebago County, LSA complies with the Winnebago County Postings. The county has weight signs posted at each end of Best Road and other areas. If you are having a delivery, such as lumber, concrete, furniture, etc. make sure that your driver of these deliveries knows that we comply with the Winnebago County road postings. To know when the roads are posted you can call the Winnebago Highway Department or check the signs. The following is the gross weight for vehicles:

  • 2 axles, single rear tires 7,000 lbs
  • 2 axles, dual rear tires 18,000lbs
  • 3 or more axles, dual rear tires 30,000lbs
  • GROSS AXLE LOAD 11,000lbs

PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR THEFTS in your home:

  • Lock all doors and windows no matter how briefly you’ll be out of the house
  • Do not leave notes on your door or window. (Such as: Gone, will be home at 2:30, or Gone, key is under the rock.) These notes tell thieves you are gone and they can access your home
  • If you are going to be out of the house for a short time, leave a television or radio on to create a sense of activity and presence
  • If you are going to be away for a longer time, such as a vacation, take a few simple precautions to keep your home from looking empty. Ask a neighbor to collect your mail or have post office hold your mail and keep the door and porch clear of delivery notices, newspapers and fliers. Pick up several electric timers at the local discount store, and use them to turn, lights, a television or radios on and off at various times during the day and evening. Let your neighbors and security know how to reach you in case there’s an emergency.
  • Marking your valuable personal property won’t prevent it from being stolen, but it will help you get it back if it is found. Engrave your lot number on items in a hidden area. Engravers can be checked out from the Security Chief. Photographing the item with your engraved lot number will help in retrieve your items from the police if they are recovered and will aid in making an insurance claim if they aren’t.

It doesn’t take much to discourage a burglar. He succeeds on opportunity, and if your home doesn’t offer a good opportunity, he’ll move on to one that does.

GUESTS/RULES: Members, please make sure that you let your guests know what our rules and regulations are at Lake Summerset. Your guests must abide by these rules, as do you. REDBOOK Section B 1(k) states: You are responsible for the action of your guests and any fines that may be levied if they violate these Regulations. You should take care that your guests know and comply with these Regulations and Restrictions.

SNOWMOBILES: Any snowmobile that belongs to a member of LSA that travels on LSA property must be registered with the LSA Office. You must have proof of insurance and display your lot number and decal on this vehicle.

Guest snowmobiles must enter and exit at the main gate. Guest snowmobiles must have a pass to enter, must be accompanied by the member hosting them, and must go the most direct route to that member’s home only.

Also, a reminder to all snowmobile operators: open lots are off limits to snowmobiles, unless you have permission from the lot owner to cross their properties. Every year we get numerous complaints that snowmobiles are driving on open lots and sometimes on homeowner’s lots. There have also been incidents where snowmobiles have damaged property (trees, lawns, etc). So, please respect your fellow lot/home owners and stay off their property.

If you have any questions concerning any subject in this article, feel free to call the security department at 248-2194 extension 224 and ask for Janet.

The security guard house is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day to report any complaints or suspicious activity. The emergency number is 248-2778.
